◈ The practical step-by-step guide

Claude Code now builds you a full Motion Graphics video — all you do is say what you want

The secret is a skill called Remotion. It installs inside Claude Code with one command. No timeline, no keyframes — you just describe the idea in plain words.

Why this guide mattersWhy this matters

Want a promo video? An intro for your channel? It builds it for you from scratch.

And the best part: every edit happens right in the chat. Colors, timing, text, motion. It changes in front of you in seconds.

Which means motion design without learning a single app.

02

Before you start: what you needPrerequisites

  • 1
Node.js installed on your machine (version 18 or newer)
  • 2
Claude Code installed and working — it needs a paid Claude subscription
  • 3
A code editor like VS Code (optional, but it makes things easier)
  • 4
You know how to open a terminal and type a command — that’s it
◆

Tip: You don’t need to know React, After Effects, or any design app. Your only job is to know what you want and describe it in words.

The stepsStep by step

1

Create a new Remotion project

Open the terminal in the folder you want to work in and run:

terminal
npm create video@latest

It’ll ask you a few questions — pick: the Blank template · TailwindCSS Yes. And as soon as it finishes, it asks whether you want to add Agent Skills — hit Yes.

The Skills are the most important piece — they’re what teach Claude Code the best way to work with Remotion.

2

Install the Remotion Skills (if you didn’t during setup)

If you skipped the option above, go into the project folder and run this command — it installs the official Skills from Remotion:

terminal
npx skills add remotion-dev/skills

Once installed, Claude Code gets ready-made commands like /remotion-create and /remotion-markup — they give it full Remotion expertise.

3

Go into the project folder

terminal
cd my-video

Swap my-video for the project name you chose.

4

Start Remotion Studio

terminal
npm run dev

Remotion Studio will open in your browser. Every video you make shows up as a composition in the sidebar — you preview it, tweak it, and render it right there.

5

Open Claude Code in the same folder

Open a new terminal tab (leave the first one running) and type:

terminal
claude

Make sure you’re inside the project folder so it can see the Remotion files and edit them.

6

Ask for the video in plain words

Write a clear description of what you want. For example:

claude prompt
Make me a 5-second video, black background, the text "Diyaa Albouzan | Tech" appears with a smooth scale animation, then a colored line drops in underneath it

It’ll write the code and add it as a new composition — head back to Remotion Studio and you’ll find it ready.

7

Tweak it in the chat until you like it

You never open a timeline. You just type what you want changed:

claude prompt
Make the color amber instead of blue, speed the animation up by half a second, and extend the video to 8 seconds

Keep going until you get the result you want, then render with the Render button inside Remotion Studio.

Tips that get you a professional resultPro tips

Start simple

Animated text, a bar chart, a logo reveal — these come out great on the first try.

Be specific in your description

State the duration, the color, the type of motion, and the direction. A vague description gets you a vague result.

Keep an Inspiration folder

Save any motion graphics you like in it, and attach them as a reference.

Edit one step at a time

One change per message beats five changes in one go.

05

Mistakes everyone makes at the startCommon mistakes

Terminal in the wrong folder

Running claude from the wrong folder — you have to be inside the project folder.

Skipping the Skills

Skipping the Skills install option during setup — without them it won’t work properly with Remotion.

Complex scenes right away

Asking for complex scenes on the first try (lots of arrows, hand-drawn illustrations) — that’s the hardest thing for it.

Closing the terminal

Closing the npm run dev terminal — it has to stay running for you to see the preview.
